At ABC Environmental Contracting Services, we specialize in fast and effective water damage mitigation. When a homeowner in Fulton, MO, returned from vacation, they came to find a disaster in their home: a water-damaged basement. The ceiling, walls, and floors in several rooms were affected, along with electrical issues and a strange odor in the office. Unsure of the water’s source, they called us for professional help. Our team responded quickly to check the extent of the damage and stop it from spreading further with our expert water damage mitigation in Fulton, MO.

Receiving an Emergency Call from the Client

The homeowner contacted us after finding water in the basement bedroom and bathroom, with visible damage to the ceiling and walls. The office had a musty smell, and the hallway and office flooring had been damaged. Electrical problems, including malfunctioning outlets, a broken light switch, a pool pump failure, and a faulty security alarm, only added to their concerns. With no clear source of water, they needed expert help fast.

Saving the Water-Damaged Basement: Our Steps

To restore the homeowner’s basement, we followed a structured process to remove moisture, dry the space, and prevent further damage.

Identifying the Source and Assessing the Damage

We took the time to carefully inspect the area to find the source of the water and see how much damage had occurred. After checking the walls, ceilings, and flooring with moisture meters, we discovered that a leak from the back wall was the reason behind the damage.

Creating Containment to Prevent Further Spread

To contain the damage to the affected areas, we set up containment in the bedroom before beginning our work. This kept dust, debris, and possible mold spores from moving to clean and unaffected areas of this home.

Removing Soaked Materials

We removed the damaged portions of the ceiling, as well as all affected insulation in both the ceiling and walls. Every nail and screw from the open areas was pulled out to prepare for restoration.

Cleaning the Area

After removing all damaged materials, we vacuumed the studs and open areas to clear out dust and debris. We swept the entire basement, and we bagged all drywall and insulation for safe and proper disposal.

Tackling Mold and Moisture Prevention

To prevent mold growth, we applied antimicrobial spray to all affected areas, including walls, ceilings, and some contents in the basement. This step was necessary for providing long-term protection against future moisture problems.

Drying Out the Basement

The final drying stage involved the following:

  • Equipment: We placed five air movers and one dehumidifier throughout the bathroom, bedroom, and homeowner’s office to dry out the space fully.
  • Moisture and Humidity: The equipment removed excess moisture and stabilized humidity levels for the drying to be as effective as possible.
  • Monitoring:  We followed the drying process to ensure the home was completely moisture-free.
